The largest of the Pontine Islands between Rome and Naples, Ponza is a Beautiful place for Yacht Charter south of Cape Circeo, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, already famous for events and Crewed Charter. The kaolin and tufa rock has eroded into fantastic shapes, inspiring names like “the monk” and “the giant pair of pants”; and there are giant “faraglioni” – rock stacks that appear to march out of the sea and across the beach. Becoming one of the most beautiful sailing areas where rent a boat.

Long ago, the Etruscans enhanced Ponza’s natural charms by hollowing out luminescent sea-grottoes in the cliffs, visitable by a private yacht for charter and the Romans dug through solid rock to create galleries that gave access to the best beaches, offering a good mooring for sailing yachts.

In that era, Ponza was covered by primeval forest – and on Monte Guardia, its highest hill, you can still see the rotting stumps of giant trees with a diameter of 2.5 m . Now you look down on stepped terraces of vines, cactus pears and fig trees, engulfing the wealth of ruins, ancient and modern, left by a dozen occupying powers.

What little room there is on the island to expand is protected from development, and existing residents have curtailed neon bars and discos. You don’t have to be rich to enjoy its tranquillity, beauty, and terrific diving, but Ponza’s style certainly favours the rich yacht owners who holiday here.

It’s discreet, clubby kind of place – but most visitors agree that it’s a club they’d be only too happy to join.
